Portrait of Nadiia Buriachok

Nadiia Buriachok is a multidisciplinary artist exploring power, identity, and the politics of womanhood. Born in Vinnytsia, Ukraine, and currently based in Stockholm, she built her foundation at the T. G. Shevchenko State Art School, one of Eastern Europe's leading institutions for classical and contemporary art.

Working across painting, conceptual art, and socially engaged projects, Buriachok's work is deeply informed by her involvement in activism and collaborations with NGOs. Her artistic language bridges aesthetics and advocacy, often addressing themes of women's rights, body autonomy, and the intersection of personal and political narratives. Through layered symbolism, she creates emotionally charged works that are at once intimate and confrontational.

Exhibiting internationally since the age of 18, Buriachok belongs to a new generation merging art with social impact. Her projects frequently extend beyond traditional exhibition spaces, incorporating collaborative and community-based approaches.

Alongside her artistic practice, Buriachok is actively engaged in social initiatives focused on empowerment and cultural dialogue. This dual commitment informs her vision of art not only as a form of expression, but as a tool for change in constant transformation.

ARTIST STATEMENT

My artistic practice is an ongoing investigation into power, femininity, memory, and trauma. Working across large-scale painting, mirror-glass mosaic, installation, and performance, I utilize religious iconography as a structural architecture to examine the intersections of personal and political reality. Visual art has fundamentally shaped how I process these dimensions, allowing me to translate complex perceptions into tangible forms.

Each piece operates as a physical testimony that is directly shaped by experiences of displacement, war, and womanhood. By combining classical execution with symbolism, I aim to create visual narratives that challenge the traditional boundaries between intimacy, societal resistance, and political oppression. I view the material creation of art not only as a localized form of expression, but as an instrument designed to provoke continuous dialogue and transformation.
